Still buzzing post-shoot, Nikki Phillips slings one arm behind the couch as she makes herself comfortable in preparation for our chat. Her energy is contagious and before we know it we’re babbling about everything from babies to drones to beauty regimes. But after struggling to get pregnant for the past two years, it’s understandable that Phillips is a ball of positivity as she moves well past the three month mark.

On location for the campaign shoot for Clinelle – a new skincare brand Phillips has recently been announced as the new ambassador for – we grabbed the model after the last shot of the day to find out just how everything is going with the pregnancy and how it has affected her daily life.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You must be thrilled… It’s a boy and we are very, very, very excited! It’s been two years in the making and obviously anyone who delves into that whole world of pregnancy, fertility, chromosomes, miscarriages, IVF, all that realises it doesn’t ‘just happen’ for some people. It’s not until you delve into it that you realise everything that can go wrong with you – so yes, we are over the moon. I’m like ‘I’ll take anything! I’ll take morning sickness – which I’ve had terribly – but I’ll take anything as long as he is happy and healthy! He’s got very long legs, so he takes after his mother already. We are totally ecstatic, overwhelmed… words can’t even describe.

When did you find out you were pregnant? We found out in November, just after racing season, and then we found out the sex of the baby around the fourth of January. We’ve been worried the whole way through on whether everything is perfect and everything is going well, but then also trying not to think about it as I didn’t want want to jinx it. But everything has been amazing and we’re relaxing – I’m starting to feel him now as well so it’s a bit more reassurance.

Has being pregnant affected your health and beauty routine? I would have used to say back in the day that none of that would affect me, but it’s affected me one hundred per cent. You’re so aware of everything you’re putting on your skin or in your body because it’s not just about you, you don’t really care about yourself as much in that respect, now it’s all about him. For me, I’ve taken a step back and it’s now very simple and natural. Working with Clinelle has been such an honour and amazing time as the brand is all natural and very simple. I use just three products regularly. Because every day is so busy, it’s nice to have just three products that are your go-tos. At the moment I’m very aware of my skin and it just makes it glow.

How many beauty products would you use on a daily basis? When I’m not working, it’s just mascara and a little bit of concealer. When you’re at work you get so many products put on your face, so it’s nice to just take it all back and keep it simple. That’s why I like using just three skincare products as well!
