In accord with the operatic shapes and sculptural silhouettes of Haute Couture, beauty followed a similar order. Bold, conceptual and graphic; the makeup at Haute Couture Spring was nothing short of stellar. Here, a look at the major beauty trends to wow and delight.

Block Blush
Blush took a conceptual turn, with chunky articulations in block-like shapes. At Alexandre Vauthier it was a DeLorean back to the ’80s with a futuristic twist (and distinctly Parisian flavour); shocking pink, overly pronounced and rounded across the whole cheekbone. At Alexis Mabille, blush was blended high on the temple; candy pink with a soft watercolour-like finish.

lilac Lips
Pat McGrath sent girls – including a very ‘grammable Kaia Gerber – at Valentino with powdery mauve lips. Debuting her latest Lust MatteTrance Lip Colour, the chalky lavender colour was just the thing to tie in with plucked purple feathers.

Graphic Lines
Picasso strokes reigned supreme; with a single gold line painted above the eye at Elie Saab. At Margiela, colourful cut-outs were painted across lids by McGrath, whilst at Valentino she took to model lids with chunky colour. Block colour was also seen at Iris Van Herpen, with a simple chunky line under the eye in canary yellow. At Jean Paul Gaultier, Dali lines framed the eye with artistic rigour.

Juicy Pouts
Tom Pecheux lacquered lips in a juicy mix of Chanel Rouge Allure 182 and Rouge Coco Gloss 794, to create a beautifully youthful, glossy lip (perfect for a Parisian garden party).

Bare Skin
Despite the fanciful concoctions and swathes of sorbet tulle, skin was kept beautifully bare at Giambattista Valli, with a “modern, young, carefree Jane Birkin” as Val Garland’s makeup muse. Skin almost remained untouched at Elie Saab and Viktor & Rolf.

Theatric Lashes
Dior’s exaggerated spider lash was in fact a case of beauty trickery, hand-painted by Peter Phillips with Diorshow On Stage Liner. The surrealist strokes were a graphic projection of an eyelash, kittenish and fabulous.

heavy-handed glitter
Haute Couture is a playground of the experimental and wildly eccentric, and Viktor & Rolf lived up to their avant-garde roots in terms of beauty, playing liberally with glitter in prismatic colour and shape. Whilst at Maison Margiela, McGrath took lips to the third dimension, with exceptional holographic lids coming to life, and played with Bowie-like bolts of glitter across cheeks.
