As New York Fashion Week enters day three, the talk is still all about Raf Simons’s glorious debut at Calvin Klein. For the show not only spelled a true“ fashion moment” it signalled the beginning of a revolution in American fashion which has long held a reputation for being ultra commercial. (Read: safe and predictable.)

In the brave new world of Simons – who was appointed Creative Director of the iconic brand last August after his sudden departure from Dior which sent planet fashion into a tail spin – there are no such words as classic, let alone conservative.

And in something of a call to action, the designer is not only out to re-write the label’s sporty aesthetic but totally change the game plan for his fellow designers who will be left with no choice but to step up the creativity.

That’s not to say Simons’s didn’t honour the brands Americana roots – the classics were there – but he promptly turned them on their head. And then some. Here are the hot new trends from Raf at Calvin that are worth getting all worked up about.
1. COLOUR BLOCKING Red, white and blue, the boys love you.
2. NEW TAKE ON TWEED Cut out tweed or shielded in Perspex, you decide.
3. THE “CLASSIC” TRENCH What’s yellow, furry and covered in plastic?
4. DOUBLE DENIM In dark or light wash, we don’t care.
5. PRETTY IN PLASTIC See through has never looked so transparently sexy.
6. LEATHER WITH A TWIST Soften up your biker look with pretty flowers.
