Brandon Maxwell is being congratulated on breaking convention in the fashion industry by casting Lily Aldridge – who is five months pregnant – in his SS19 show. On a salmon-coloured runway with a collection Gigi Hadid has endorsed as her favourite, global headlines are all in favour of Maxwell supporting maternity glamour. Aldridge even posted a thank you on her Instagram.

“So proud to walk the @brandonmaxwell runway 5 months pregnant!,” she began. “I’ve walked few runways in my life and this is a moment that I’ll look back on forever with great emotion. Thank you Brandon for letting me shine & being such a true gentleman. Love you FOREVER!!! And love to all the amazing powerful girls casted in the show…It was so much fun being backstage will all the girls, everyone was so uplifting and rubbing my belly and celebrating this beautiful journey with me. Nothing but empowerment at Brandon Maxwell.”

Just as Tom Ford said on Wednesday night, he wasn’t concerned this season with creating ironic or clever clothes, but rather, he wanted to make beautiful ones. Maxwell shared a similar sentiment. You didn’t walk away thinking he’d disrupted the fashion scene with a new trend or cut but everything – in its plainspoken quality – was wearable and approachable. With an aesthetic derived from his recent time spent in Texas, Maxwell sent big, shiny and colourful – just like that Southern accent – down the runway. Fuchsia pinks, shiny teals and sunbursts of yellow and red spoke to the Lone Star State by way of stunning coathangers in Gigi and Bella Hadid, Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill and Joan Smalls.

“Inspired by Brandon’s hometown of Texas, this notion was primarily conveyed by the collection’s vivid palette,” says GRAZIA’s stylist and fashion office manager Patrick Zackiewicz from the ground in New York City. “The perfect ensembles for dining at the country club, the Perspex rosé bag is probably going to be my favourite accessory of this season.”

Take a peek at some of the collection’s highlights here including this pleated fuchsia mini that is less country club and more a dinner at Beauty & Essex with the girls in NYC, but each to their own.
