Dare we say it? Can it be? From the first glimpses of the New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2017 it looks like the seasons-long age of no make-up, make-up is coming to an end. First hinting at the shift towards glitz was Tom Ford, whose history-making show (the designer presented a see now, buy now collection) saw supermodels come down the catwalk oozing uptown glamour in immaculate skin, shaded eyes and slicked back chignons.

Next up Cushnie et Ochs pushed a similar polished message with the girls sporting impossibly glossy hair that was smoothed to a satin finish and styled into a bouncy blow wave that screamed, “Just put in on my Black Amex, thanks.”

Then there was relatively new designers, Brock and Hellessey who clearly got the glamour is back memo, each presenting “I summer in The Hamptons,” skin and velvety hair pulled back into Park Avenue-ready half-up ponytails.

The message? Lazy is out. As is your snooze button, because now is the time to become best friends with you blow-dryers and to switch out your beloved dry texture sprays for weekly protein treatment masks, to get swiftly boost the all over quality of your hair and have it shining in no time. And in terms of make-up? Sexy, expensive second skin don’t mean packing on the base. Instead invest in one of the new real-skin effect foundations that straddle the line between matte and illuminating, to defuse imperfections and make your skin look like the real thing only smoother and more awake. Our current obsession for this is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick. For a rich-girl finishing touch? Take your cue from Jason Wu and slot a semi-matte poppy red lipstick into your summer routine.
