The women who have filed claims of sexual harassment, assault or rape against Harvey Weinstein are believed. Interestingly however, Pamela Anderson has given an interview to U.S. journalist Megyn Kelly where she has spoken about the perils of Hollywood culture and how some situations with Weinstein could have been side-stepped.

Anderson – who is herself a victim of sexual assault many times over – says she wasn’t surprised when multiple women began to come forward with horrible recounts of experiences with the film mogul. “I think it was common knowledge that certain producers and certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid. Privately,” she said. “You know what you’re getting into if you go to a hotel room alone.”

Kelly attempted to offer a reason some women may have done exactly that, for example, their trustful agent had set the meeting up. “Send somebody with them, that’s what they should have done” Anderson replied. “I just think there’s easy ways to remedy that, that’s not a good excuse.”

When quizzed on how she found the strength to leave her first husband and father to her two boys, Tommy Lee, with whom she has said abused her, she responded with sincerity. “It’s the hardest thing in the world to do because you’re in love with that person,” she said. “You just have to do it. There’s the cycle of abuse too when you go back into the same relationship… You’ve said it’s OK for that person to act that way. And it’s just going to get worse and worse and worse. I’ve been back and forth in relationships, I haven’t figured it out yet, that for sure!”

An activist living in the South of France, Anderson also touched on her unlikely friendship with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. She regularly visits Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy in London where he’s been in asylum since 2012. “I wanted him to tell me how to be more effective as an activist,” Anderson says. When Kelly pushes and asks if the relationship has turned romantic, the actress coyly smiles. “I wouldn’t say its romantic. But we’re very close, he’s really an important person to me.”
