Uniqlo is collaborating with one the world’s most respected style icons, a woman known for her embodiment of Parisian chic, for its upcoming Autumn collection. Even if you’re not familiar with the name Ines de la Fressange, you will most likely recognise her headline-making work.

Arguably France’s first It-Girl, the aristocratic model made a mark on the fashion industry as a muse for Karl Lagerfeld in the 1980s, working with major designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and more recently as the global brand ambassador for Roger Vivier, elevated the shoe brand again to luxury style staple status.

Her accolades span through decades of notable feats, including another runway appearance for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, and the 62-year-old shows she’s got no plans to stop anytime soon, with this Uniqlo collection as proof.

To mark her 10th season with the fashion brand, the company and designer duo has created a kids line to complement its womenswear range. “I look to cultivate a love of clothing among children,” de la Fressange says. “From the inception of the collection, I had wanted to offer kids apparel crafted with the same fabrics as women’s items.”

Influenced by the idea of a mother and child being able to bond through fashion, each womenswear style has a kid’s ‘mini-me’ counterpart. The concept is a unique approach to producing kids-wear and one that is fostered by an interest in providing luxury and appreciation for wares in younger generations. “It gives parents great joy to see their children looking stylish and happy,” the designer wrote. “As a mother myself, that’s something very close to my heart.”

Launching in Australia’s springtime, this range is a nod to the past in the most fashionable way. Taking inspiration from her aristocratic roots in Paris, the icon has created a line that looks straight off Montmartre’s streets in France. It features a classic 1920s colour palette of warm yellows, peaches and maroons hues, with the garments made using tweed, cotton and other quality fabrics.

The line is a capsule collection for both kids and women with the same ’20s theme featured across both ranges. If anyone knows how to create a collection that embodies Parisian chic, it’s Ines de la Fressange.
