“The collection was inspired by ‘50s and ‘60s London, those teddy boys and teddy girls,” Peter Philips said backstage. It was obvious. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s girls walked down the runway with the kind of retro punk you’d associate with the era. They were like an army of modern day Twiggy’s – thick chunky lashes which fanned out like spider’s legs below model eyes. But, lashes these were not.

With black pigment and a cup of water, Philips painted “little rectangles under the eye” with trompe l’oeil effect. “The makeup is very heavy-handed, almost cartoon style,” he added. Cartoonish, yes, but it was also strong and spirited, a nod to sixties mod and those feisty female renegades, the Teddy Girls. It was beautifully graphic and intense, with the top lid fully blacked-out with Dior Onstage Liner in Matte Black and lashes licked with Diorshow Pump’n’Volume mascara 090.

Dior’s Teddy Girls sat somewhere between dolly and punk, the look topped off with net-trimmed bucket hats embossed with the Dior Logo. And popping out from beneath that 90s bucket (a shape that seemingly won’t die), the most magnificent 60s dolly “lashes”.
