On the crazy sunglass spectrum, where poppy neon plastic and Terminator-like metallic wraparounds are guaranteed to steal attention in the short term, the most in-demand style of the moment ranks rather surprisingly down the subtle end.
Deciding to edge two big tea saucer-like discs with lacy tear-drop borders was a genius move on the part of Preen by Thornton Bregazzi – the result is striking enough to make a rather large statement (subtle black cats-eye shades these certainly aren’t) without being totally distracting.
Even the style’s name, Chantilly, conjures images of girls dressed in white lace eating scones with cream on a picnic rug. Pretty, fun and fierce – it’s the tricky accessory trinity. Throw in the fact these are almost universally face-flattering and you’ve got yourself an iconic piece in the making.

True to form, Beyonce was quick to jump on the sun-holiday Chantilly bandwagon. Suki Waterhouse gave Anna Wintour a run for her FROW shades money with hers. Kate Beckinsale is regularly snapped in hers by papps and just last weekend Emma Roberts stole the limelight from the ever-perfect Diane Kruger (with due respect to Emma, who knew that was even possible?) at the star-studded Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in New Jersey last weekend.

So what would these smoking designer shades set you back if you were to join Beyonce in its fan club? Just $238 Australian dollars. Seriously. What better reason to splash out on more than one colour? Just don’t count on them lasting too long.
