For a script based on the life of a Bollywood star to do well in Hollywood, it needed a high-profile name. Enter Priyanka Chopra of Quantico, the Baywatch movie and a slew of Indian films.

Chopra will next star in a TV series about the life of big-time Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit who moved from India to Colorado when she married her cardiologist husband. The sitcom will reportedly follow her new life as she attempts to assimilate into a society who have no idea she’s basically the Meryl Streep of Bollywood (read: six Filmfare Awards, critical acclaim in all her film-work including one which showed in Cannes). Dixit and her husband are working with Chopra to produce the show with the hopes of making it an American television hit.

It’s an interesting time in American television. We are seeing stars and scripts go against some of the baseless laws being made by the country’s President. As Vanity Fair quips “it sounds like this show will be Hindi cinema in American what Jane The Virgin is to the classic Latin American telenovela.” Here’s hoping.

More to come.
