Asking any of the top-billed cast members of Ocean’s 8 a contentious and somewhat political question is intimidating. However, when it comes to Harvey Weinstein, most actors and actresses still view the topic as important to discuss. And so was the case for Sandra Bullock and The Sunday Times at the world premiere of the aforementioned heist film of which Bullock is the star.

The 53-year-old actress spoke very candidly about how she feared working with Weinstein after hearing rumours of his sexual escapades and intimidation against women. “I heard about Harvey and I was afraid of him,” she said. ““People would say, ‘Well, you know how she got that role? She f***ed Harvey.’ I would say, ‘Shut the f*** up. You don’t know that.’ Then, later, to find out that woman was brutally attacked,” she said. “They didn’t sleep with Harvey. Harvey wanted you to think that.”

Weinstein was this month arrested and charged with rape in New York City in the wake more than 70 women accusing him of sexual misconduct.

Bullock has mentioned in prior interviews she did experience sexual assault when she was a young actress starting out. She reacted with humour and when that didn’t work, she says she asked to be fired form the project. It is unclear whether or not she was as she has since refused to name the subject.
