This week Ivanka Trump was asked about the recent Saturday Night Live skit titled “Complicit”, in which she was portrayed by Scarlett Johansson and called out for claiming to be a champion for women despite a track record to the contrary.
“Complicit: the fragrance for the woman who could stop all of this, but won’t. Also available in a cologne for Jared,” Johansson’s voiceover read.
In response, Ivanka this week told CBS News’s Gayle King “If being complicit is wanting to be a force for good and to make a positive impact, then I’m complicit.
‘‘I don’t know that the critics who may say that of me, if they found themselves in this very unique and unprecedented situation that I am now in, would do any differently than I am doing,” she continued, adding that she doesn’t think it’s necessary for her to “constantly articulate every issue publicly where I disagree”.
But her answer isn’t good enough for Scarlett, who has skewered the former fashion businesswoman, now Whitehouse employee, yet again.
“I thought to myself, ‘Well that’s empowering,’” Johansson said sarcastically as she spoke to Arianna Huffington at the eighth annual Women in the World Summit in New York City on Thursday.
“If you take a job as a public advocate, then you must advocate publicly,” the actress, who spoke at the Women’s March on Washington, said.
“It’s such an old-fashioned concept that to be a powerful woman you can’t appear to be concerned,” the actress said. “Screw that, it’s so old-fashioned, it’s so uninspired and actually really cowardly.”
We’ve got a feeling “Complicit” won’t be the last time Ivanka sees herself on Saturday Night Live.
