Beauty utopia exists, and its location is haute couture week. Particularly on the Schiaparelli runway, where diamantés, glitter, and fringing came together for one of the most scintillating makeup parties of all time.

The Fall 2019 Couture runway show was a technicolour mash-up of frothy, faille gowns and sequined separates, made all the more festive with a downright surreal beauty mood. Lead makeup artist Lucia Pieroni was at the helm armed with a kit composed of MAC Cosmetics – the ultimate weapon in dreamlike beauty looks.

In short, shimmer and sparkle reigned supreme, particularly on the lips in shades of candy pink, gold, onxy and blood red, but also on the neck. Pieroni actually painted an inky black glitter collar from a model’s jaw line to the décolletage. The effect was remarkable, just as couture-specific makeup should be.

Hair of course wasn’t left out, with glitter tips, metallic streamers, and acid yellow dip-dye finding its way onto the runway.

And because for Schiaparelli more is more, art deco diamanté decals also played a part, dripping from red acrylic nails, frosting slick pony tails, and adding an extra dimension of glamour to a classic smoky eye.

Overall, it was a treat for beauty maximalists everywhere, and a welcome nudge to put down the shades of beige, and instead layer shimmer and shade without abandon.
