A spectacular culmination of art, nature and fragrance; Issey Miyake Parfums has partnered with Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, 2017.

The partnership is a celebratory journey of scent and the sea; an ode to Issey Miyake and his fragrances. A designer who transcends fashion, he is an artist, the artist who gave a scent to water; l’Eau d’Issey.

It is through nature, namely the ocean, that Issey Miyake finds his inspiration, and through fragrance in which he articulates it. To Miyake, “the world’s most beautiful and purest scent is the scent of water on a woman’s skin,” and this was to be his muse for his very first fragrance. In 1992, L’Eau D’Issey, was born. One of the great classics in the olfactive narrative, to this day, it leaves a lasting legacy. This time, however, it is captured afresh with a new iteration, L’Eau Majeure d’ Issey, whilst its original drop, l’Eau d’Issey, remains forever loved.

The consummate creative, the l’Eau d’Issey flaccon symbolises the moon rising over the Eiffel tower and the L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme bottle is a reference to the strength of a waterfall; recalling sea glass shaped by tumultuous waters, and much like many of sculptures featured in this year’s exhibition, explores the refraction of light and water.

It is the connection between creativity and art to nature, harmony and purity that allured Issey Miyake Parfums to support the 21st Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in Bondi. Since 1997, Sculpture by the Sea, has very much set the tone for a Sydney summer, staging a significant free to the public exhibition of over 100 sculptures by artists from across the world on the spectacular 2km Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk.

On Saturday 28 October, samples of Issey Miyake fragrances will be offered complimentary with every purchase of a Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi exhibition catalogue.
