Something old(ish) – Justin. Something new – her platinum crop. There was even something borrowed – a skin-tight Coach 1941 leather mini dress. By all means, Selena Gomez sure knows how to make an AMA red carpet entrance – Biebs or not by her side.
“So I am blonde now”
She captioned an antiquated, sepia-rich Instagram post just hours before making her AMA red carpet debut. Posing with Anna Collins (and shot by Petra Collins), Selena is staring into the lens in an oversized white tee, her hair now bob-length, bouncy, and most importantly – blonde.

For the natural brunette, it wasn’t even a gradual digression to natural honey or milky mousy brown, it was blonde. Platinum blonde. Bleached-out blonde. Blonde, in every sense of the word. There was even a hint of dark root, making her newly bleached locks stand out even more (also, referencing Kimmy’s recent black-root-to-platinum hair – imploring the question; are black roots really back?)
Super side-swept with a slightly rumpled fringe, the rest of her hair was tucked behind the ear. Ever the chameleon when it comes to her makeup (blame colour wizard and her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo), it is a stark change for the always-brunette Selena. The colour change came about via Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri at Nine Zero One Salon in Los Angeles, with Selena’s own hairstylist, Marissa Marino, giving the duo a shout-out on Instagram (naturally).
Tousled and with texture aplenty, this new abbreviated blonde ‘do aligned itself perfectly with the sexed-up Coach ensemble. Clad in black leather and silver hardware, it was an edgy choice from root to moto zip for the pop princess.
The questions remains: Will Selena have more fun? Let’s wait and see.
