2017 has been the year of taking a few risks when it comes to eyeshadow. Stepping away from the more traditional browns, greys, and taupes, the first few months of the year saw a big play at pink eyeshadow – with everyone from celebrities to Fashion Week runway models sporting the look. But this week has seen Selena Gomez bring us another tricky eyeshadow trend – with the actress stepping out in brightly-hued orange shadow.
Complementing her marigold Oscar de la Renta dress and Rebecca de Ravenel Chiquita statement earrings for the premiere of 13 Reasons Why in LA on March 30, Gomez’s makeup artist Hung Vanngo did not shy away from colour for the occasion. A pretty beauty look of coral cheeks, peach lips and heavy lashes were offset by a prominent swipe of bright tangerine shadow across her lids and outwards (and it looks that good, we’re predicting this hue is about to get a whole lot of air time).

Hair was kept minimal to keep the focus on the face, with hair stylist Marissa Marino slicking her locks back into a low chignon bun. And nails were a bargain buy – with nail artist Tom Bachik using the $4.95 cobalt polish Sinful Colors Endless Blue to add a contrasting colour to Gomez’s orange-themed look.
It appears that colour is beginning to make a comeback… at least where the eyes are concerned.
