These days the phrase It-bag is tossed around far too freely, but from time to time a style genuinely deserves the buzz it garners.

Think the Mulberry Bayswater in the ‘90s, the now ubiquitous trapezoid-shaped Celine tote in the ‘00s and Mansur Gavriel’s bucket bag domination of the early ‘10s. But what about the It-winner for the second half of this decade?

Chances are you’re looking at a front-runner for that accolade. British luxury house Burberry first unveiled its new Belt Bag Collection on its Autumn Winter 2018 runway, a new signature shape that clearly derives its name from the belt-like design feature across its centre.

It’s a style and shape that speaks to the very beginnings of the brand itself: its signature trench coat, originally designed by Mr Burberry himself to be worn by British soldiers fighting in the trenches during the Second World War.

Today’s bag, however, has far more glamorous – although equally practical – application. Celebrities like Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, Zendaya Coleman, Kate Mara and Naomi Watts now carry the style as their go-to. We suspect now the style’s landed in Australian stores, there will be plenty of local women here doing just the same.

The Burberry Belt Bag Collection is now available in stores and online and in two sizes – Medium and Large – with 10 colour combinations available for the former and five the latter. Prices range from $3250 to $3650.
