We don’t like to say we told you so, but, we told you so. Last month, in our round-up of compact and very cute box bags to buy, we included one of our favourite new brands on the fashion scene, Montunas. The bag brand, which draws inspiration from its founder Elke Ruge’s native Costa Rica, crafts vegetable-tanned leather totes and boxy acetate bags with a signature vibrant orchid twilly as its top handle. Cute, huh? Meghan Markle thinks so.
In London for the WellChild Awards, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual gala with Markle wearing the forest green Parosh dress she first wore to announce her engagement to Harry back in 2017. But she hit refresh on the classic number by adding all-new accessories, including a quirky little box bag from Montunas.
Montunas’s Mini Guaria Bag features a structured tortoiseshell-acetate hardcase and silk-twill scarf handle inspired by the hanging planters in the label’s own Orchid house in the San Jose mountains. Printed with the ansellia – a subtropical species of orchid known for its leopard-spot petals – its silk scarf can be worn two ways, either long or short, and can be removed along with its internal pouch. Adding a little punch to an otherwise conservative outfit, it remained tonal with the remainder of look in similar hues of brown, nude and green.
While the exact size is sold out (of course), it is available for Pre-Order on Montunas’s website. Or, if you can’t wait, you can still purchase the slightly larger version on Matches Fashion, or opt for the same size in a pearly white or marbled navy. Either way, Markle has definitely put Montunas on the fashion map.
