As the season changes, so should our skincare. According to Aesop’s foremost expert, Dr Kate Forbes, General Manager, Products and Research & Development, winter skin needs TLC, just a different kind. Much like we dress according to season, our skin wardrobe too should change when the weather does. So how does one adequately arm themselves, or more specifically their skin, when it’s cold out?

Here, Dr Forbes advises on how to best protect your skin from the chill – the Aesop way.

Why is it so important to change your skincare as the season changes?
Our belief is that skin care should be considered, and alternated with the changing of seasons. We must be mindful of the shifting needs of the skin, especially after the high heat of summer, and the winter environments we endure, whether that be extreme cold outdoors or artificial heat indoors.

What are the common skin problems you see in winter?

Time spent indoors with artificial heating can be as damaging to the skin as harsh outdoor elements. Both often contribute to dryness and dehydration, leading to a feeling of skin roughness.

And how are these best treated?

Aesop is prescribing three of its fortifying and restorative Classic Skin Care formulations: Purifying Facial Cream Cleanser, Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant, and Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream. Used as part of our winter skincare prescription, each formulation helps to address common affliction associated with the cooler season, including dryness, congestion, dehydration, and associated sensitivities.

What products should we incorporate into a winter skincare routine?
The Purifying Facial Cream Cleanser removes grime and light makeup without disturbing the skin’s delicate balance. The inclusion of fatty acid-rich Evening Primrose and Rosehip Seed Oil helps to nourish, work in concert with Kaolin clay which draws impurities from the skin.

A gentle exfoliant. For a twice-weekly skin-polishing treatment, blend in Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant. The combination sloughs away tired skin cells that can accumulate on the surface, allowing any subsequent hydrating product to absorb more readily.
