The year is flying by and with February halfway through, it’s natural to check in with those new years resolutions you made back in December. However while you scale that list of vices you were so determined to ditch for a healthier 2017, there’s another one that experts are suggesting you add to the list: showering.

Some scientists argue that showering as often as we do and using so many products shifts our body’s natural ecosystem and damages delicate bacteria in our bodies called microbiome. Their findings come off the back of a study of the most remote indigenous tribe living in the Venezuelan Amazon, the Yanamami, which found the their bodies host the most diverse communities of microbiome. The concept even prompted James Hamblin, a reporter for The Atlantic to ditch showering all together. A tad drastic? Perhaps, but of less water and fewer products have long been lauded as the secret to saving our skin from irritation, dermatitis and eczema. So let’s meet in the middle, shall we?
