Solange Knowles is an esteemed singer and performer, but a few women at a Kraftwerk concert she attended in New Orleans this weekend didn’t enjoy the free show they got.

Beyonce’s little sister claims she had a wedge of lime thrown at her and was yelled at to sit down by four women as she danced with her husband and son in the crowd, and she’s called it a racist act, as she explained in a series of tweets.

“We are 4 of about 20 black concert goers out 1500 here. 4 out of maaaybbe 20 out of 1500. We walk in, and one of my favorite songs, Machine, is on. I’m excited to tell my son about how hip hop sampled Kraftwerk,” she says. “We are dancing.”

“4 older white women yell to me from behind, ‘Sit down now’ . I tell them I’m dancing at a concert. They yell, “u need to sit down now’…”

“We are at an ELECTRONIC and DANCE music concert and you are telling…not asking me…to sit down. In front of my child.

“They proceed to throw something at my back.”

“[This is] why many of us don’t feel safe,” she wrote.

“…in many white spaces … We don’t ‘bring the drama’…. Fix yourself.”

“Nobody goes to the Kraftwerk show with their kid ‘looking for drama’. But that’s how u guys like to spin this.”

solangetweets1It does seem ridiculous to tell someone to sit down – let alone throw an object at them – for dancing at a Kraftwerk concert. In New Orleans. And the fact Solange and her family were clearly a racial minority in the space would have made the women’s actions seem especially threatening.

Queen Bey is not going to be happy about this.
