Imagine you found yourself on the invitation list for a Christmas party at the Dover Heights mansion of socialite and star of The Real Housewives of Sydney Krissy Marsh. Would you expect a raw, minimalist atmosphere? Or perhaps a cosy, cutesy understated evening? Of course not! Girl, you would be wearing your hottest, highest heels and prepping yourself for a night of glitz, glamour and gasping breaths.
This year, the 45-year-old former model and mother of three has decked the halls with bows of sparkle. From the glowing LED reindeer that graze the roof to the ‘Merry Christmas’ banner that covers the balcony to the super-sized tree that leaves no millimetre undecorated, at Casa de Marsh more is more…and more is better. The mansion is beautifully extravagant. A luxe version of Hamptons-style, that includes no less than two Aaron Slims artworks. The aesthetic is classic Upstate New York meets Eastern Sydney opulence.
And her style is infectious. Just one afternoon with Marsh makes you rethink your day dressing to include sexy little red dresses, bouncy blow waves and plenty of dripping crystals. Marsh is living her best life, and Christmas is when her glitter-happy persona really hits fever pitch. Her Christmas theme this year is appropriately titled “Silver and Sparkle”. One that will be encouraged by Marsh onto guests by way of themed dressing, too. The table setting, the lighting, the wall décor and of course Marsh’s own fashion accessorising will fit the form of white and silver shimmer. As Marsh also explained to us, the decor will all tie back to her impressive annual floral arrangement. This year? A plethora of spectacular white roses.
“I like the place to be absolutely covered with decorations!”
Krissy explains “Christmas traditions for us are about decoration” and she likes to include pieces she “considers to be quite precious”. However, it’s not only the staggeringly glamorous collection of sparkles and crystals she’s peppering her home with, Marsh also likes to include elements with personal sentiment and, of course, tongue-in-cheek fun. Their huge tree is covered with so many decorations, it takes the whole family two days to complete. Each displayed piece is personal, be it framed photos or vintage baubles they all mean something to the family.
Then there’s the lights. A team of people are hired for two days to create the Marsh house nighttime spectacular. It’s the pièce de résistance for the time of year that Marsh describes as being “so important” to her. “There is no competition!” she says laughing, “I blow them all out of the water!”
So, this year, to ensure a Christmas as deliciously fun, sophisticated and sentimentally indulgent as this one by Krissy Marsh, it’s time to ramp up your bling factor.
