Louis Vuitton's 'Back to the Future' style SS17 show was a sea of stars

The spotlight was a much on the FROW as it was the fashion, but Nicolas Ghesquière still delivered with this edgy #80sforever collection

Any seasoned party-thrower knows the best way to christen a new home is to invite a crowd of friends over before you move the furniture in.

On that note, Louis Vuitton must surely be the master of A-list fashion bashes, given the Paris-based brand chose to hold its Spring/Summer 2017 runway show last night in the empty shell of the Place Vendôme space set to be its global flagship store early next year.

And true to current LV form, it was the most celeb-weighted FROW of this fashion week season. So heavy were the numbers in the customary post-show photo of creative director Nicolas Ghesquière flanked by his own brand of girl-squad (mod squad?) comprised of stunning actors, artists and supermodels from the FROW dressed head to toe in new Vuitton, it needed to be split into two separate shots.

While there was, sadly, no sign of the current celeb star of Vuitton’s AW16, Selena Gomez, the likes of Alicia Vikander, Michelle Williams, Miranda Kerr, Karlie Kloss, Jennifer Connelly, Natalia Vodianova, Roger Federer and a heavily pregnant Léa Seydoux (star of the brand’s first ever fragrance campaign), who glowed figuratively and practically in a long sequinned dress, more than made up in star-power.

In a departure from the organic, fluid lines and primary colours of his Cruise 2017 collection, the designer presented edgier, evening-inspired silhouettes that still featured the cut-out sections we’ve witness in recent collections, but with a sharper feel and plenty of leather thrown in for good measure.

A return to the power shoulder, check prints and mid-calf boots of the 1980s told a fresh tale for Vuitton, capped off with metallic finishes and bold costume jewellery that drove home the polished rock-chick message.

Extra trivia: the sleeveless black tee above that’s set to be a blogger favourite when it drops next March was emblazoned with a modernised image of the horned faun motifs carved into the stonework around the Place Vendôme store location.

The bottom line? Chunky soled platform boots are out; metallic mid-calf stiletto boots are SO back. The perfect footwear for a fashion party, really.
