Melbourne-based designer Effie Kats – or @effiekats – knows a thing or two about tailoring. Founding her eponymous label in April 2018, @effiekatsofficial, the designer focuses on made-to-measure garments which offer a fresh perspective on the tailoring of old, injecting a dash of seduction to otherwise traditional tropes. With a focus on sustainable suiting, Effie follows a sustainable model that eliminates waste and offers clients the highest quality garment that fits their unique form, telling her design story through Instagram.

Influential in her own right, the style savant leveraged her brand through Instagram, fostering its modern, streamlined aesthetic through a mix of glamorous selfies, stylised detail shots and Effie Kats-clad celebrities.

Here, Effie lets GRAZIA inside her chicly curated Instagram feed and shares four images from her Explore page that inspire both her design and her own wardrobe. With the help of GRAZIA stylist Patrick, we reimagine the magic through Effie’s personal, very stylish lens, not simply recreating the looks but making them her own. Instagram-inspired dressing done right, with a little Effie Kats twist.

lemony linen
Fashion Month served up bold stamps of colour across the runways and the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris. Monochrome colour was the standout trend with designers, editors and influencers alike championing tonal colour work, with one-colour dressing proving to be fashion’s current favourite. Using her Explore page, Effie found a picture from the streets of Milan Fashion Week of two bloggers rocking one-colour-wonder looks, the full yellow outfit sparking fashion envy. With a yellow-only palette, Patrick reimagined the look from @streettrends (a kind of glorious collective of all the best street style across the world), playing with texture and fabric by honing in on linen. And with a change in season, no fabrication says summer quite like linen, with the lightweight lemony two-piece the perfect outfit for a summery sojourn, both breezy and effortlessly chic.

FRESH TAILORING
With tailoring so intrinsic to the Effie Kats DNA, it’s no surprise the designer found a tailored look on her Explore page. But instead of traditional tailoring, Effie was keen for a fresh take, drawing inspiration from a post from @thestreetvibe (again discovered via #streetstyle). Instead of cropped blazer in the #inspo image, Patrick decided to mix things up with a long-line, leather-look jacket from ASOS in chocolate croc. Keeping it #tonal and very modern, he added a black wool pant from Christopher Esber which features a detachable, cummerbund-style belt, the finishing touch to a chic outfit.

asymmetrical androgyny
Originally inspired by a picture of Gigi and Bella Hadid off fan page, @gigiwant, Effie was obsessed with Bella’s black leather blazer, but wanted to keep the “vibe androgynous.” Choosing a similar black leather blazer by Zara, Patrick kept the rest of the look slightly masculine in tone, adding a Men’s asymmetrical JW Anderson shirt in deconstructed tartan, but styled it as a dress instead of a top, so it was still that little bit sexy.

cycle up
There’s no denying it, the bike short trend (along with the thong heel) have been the big albeit unexpected trends of 2019, with the cycling short taking up residency on almost every celebrity set of pins. Wanting to rework the bicycle short with her signature tailoring, Effie sought a little #fashioninspo from Instagram, with Patrick searching #bikeshorts and finding a post by the @thestylecat which he then referenced for her look. Unlike the classic (and unflattering!) lycra of cycling shorts, he opted for a more stylish, tailored take, pairing Bec & Bridge’s scuba short with an oversized leather shirt from Asos and a mint suede bag from Salvatore Ferragamo.
