A face-to-face confrontation between Taylor Swift and Kanye West at the very event where their feud began would be fitting, but it’s not going to happen.

Despite being in New York this week – where the MTV Video Music Awards are being held at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night (Monday morning AEST) – Taylor will not be in attendance at the awards ceremony, according to People.

“Taylor was never scheduled to attend the VMAs,” an insider told the website.

Taylor could be planning to make a surprise appearance, but in reality the chances of seeing her walk the VMAs red carpet this year are slim to none for several reasons.

For starters, she’s not nominated in a single category. Her most recent releases came out too early to be considered for this year’s awards, and since she’d used to collecting multiple gongs, it’d be one hell of a boring night for Taylor.

Secondly, Kanye West received two nominations for Famous, the song in which he calls Taylor a ‘bitch’ and depicts her naked in bed with himself and other high-profile personalities in the video. For Taylor, having to be in the same room with Kanye while a clip from the video is played would be her own special kind of hell – and imagine if he wins. It would be too much awkwardness to bear.

Taylor’s had enough awkward moments at the VMAs thanks to Kanye to last a lifetime already, don’t you think?
