From the return of the ‘wet-look’ to considered beauty art; the MTV VMAs served up beauty looks which were both stellar and varied. Always a playground for excess, beauty hit high notes with experimental up ‘dos and bold makeup moves.

Here, a few of the standout beauty looks of the night.

Rita Ora
Forever a beauty risk-taker, the face of Rimmel experimented with the brand’s new Ink Me Metallic Sticker Tattoo, with a thoughtful application at the tail end of each brow bone, whilst hair slicked down at the root and wet at the ends.

Kylie Jenner
Jenner kept is simple but nonetheless glamorous with tonal, bronzed beauty and a sleek, side-parted, low chignon, which remained modern with the deliberate sprouting of several tuffs of hair around her ears.

King Princess
This could be the coolest beauty look of the night; a slick of neon orange eyeshadow and tousled, tossed bob; all hail the King.

Amandla Stenberg
According to Stenberg, couples who eyeshadow together, stay together; as she and rumoured girlfriend King Princess opt for similar colour-saturated lids. For Stenberg, a metallic rust.

Sofia Carson
A grown-up doll; the super-side parted, slicked ponytail was meticulous, whilst beauty was kept fresh and fluttery.

Grace Vanderwaal
Like a French fembot; galactic, metallic lids were topped off with a well-placed beret.

Teyana Taylor
If you can tear your eyes away from the jaw-dropping abdominals, Taylor’s look riffs on a ’80s Grace Jones; a cropped cut, bold brows, high-cut cheeks and glossy, vermillion pout.

Shay Mitchell
Mitchell kept it monochromatic with burnished biscuit tones across eye, lip and cheek, whilst a thoroughly modern quiff completed the look.

Millie Bobby Brown
The actress’ entire look was beautifully youthful and fresh, with the exception of one thing; a sweeping of silvery blue under the eye and clumpy-cool lashes.

Jasmine Sanders
Golden Barbie opted for a super slicked, towering top-knot and deep carmine pout.

Iggy Azalea
Did Iggy just bring back “slut-strands”? The infamous ’90s hairstyle was reworked on the Australian rapper, with hair slicked out at the ends for an all-over wet-look, whilst two teeny-tiny ‘bits’ (or “Cockroach feelers”) framed her face.

Shanina Shaik
Curls took a leaf out of Kim Kardashian’s beauty book; long, cascading and wet, whilst makeup spoke true glamour, an exaggerated winged-eye and copper lids made for a va-va-voom guise.

camille cabello
The night’s big winner went bold in the beauty stakes with a big, bouncy half-up ‘do (and bangs) plus a strong red lip.

Jennifer Lopez
Where would an MTV red carpet be without its queen, JLo? Lopez’s look was textbook JLo; bronzed, contoured, lashed-out and blonde, with hair a throwback to her “Waiting For Tonight” look. Iconic.
