Shows aside, nothing quantifies fashion week quite like its street style. For many, the streets have in fact usurped the runway, with street style now becoming as influential as the designs going down the catwalk. Influencers, celebrities and editors use the streets outside and between shows as their own runway, often illustrating what to expect for the season ahead but animating them with the kind of creative verve and curious couplings that rendered them there in the first place.

Here, our favourite street style from the big four – Paris, Milan, London and New York – set to inspire your forthcoming spring wardrobe (and perhaps your next purchase).

Outside Loewe, Paris
One of the most spectacular shows not just of the week but the entire month, the streets of Loewe matched the creative marvel of Jonathan Anderson’s meditative rave inside. Of course, the masterful Spanish brand was in its droves, its famed leather goods and quirky shades on some the biggest influencers and editors alike. But it wasn’t just its cult Puzzle Bag or patchwork denim that proved mighty, but rather the way it was expressed; eclectic, eccentric and novel representations of its deftly crafted wares. Indeed, with show-goers rising to the challenge, it proved the street style of the week, with local street style photographer Myles Klaus telling me it was by far the most interesting to snap.

Outside Fendi, Milan
On the streets of Milan, bold stamps of colour and blatant branding played out, with Via Solari dishing up Fendi in all its forms. Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection of bows, embossed baguettes and FF belts were seen on everyone from Caroline Daur to Anna Dello Russo.

Outside Roksanda, London
A very English setting – grey skies and a pretty garden – was the backdrop to British icon Roksanda’s tremendous show, with the streets serving up very British codes of dressing. Coloured leather, relaxed tailoring, artful layering and bold punchy swoops of colour (a Roksanda staple) was abound on the streets of London.

Outside Dion Lee, New York City
Day 7 proved a haven of edgy street stye, with local boy wonder Dion Lee’s show dishing up some covetable dressing. Saturated neon colour, parachute pants, pleats, incongruous colour blocking and corsetry – including Lee’s cult, sell-out Sheer Jersey Corset – made several appearances on the streets of New York.
