Emma Corrin isn’t a household name yet, but she soon will be.

The up-and-coming British actress has been cast to play Lady Diana Spencer in the fourth season of The Crown, which is coming to Netflix sometime in 2019.

“Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer,” show creator Peter Morgan said in a statement.

“As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation.”

Corrin, who attended Cambridge University and has until now appeared in just a handful of theatre productions, said on Instagram she was “overjoyed, over the moon and incredibly honoured.”

It’ll be fascinating to see how The Crown incorporates Diana, one of the most important public figures of the late 20thcentury, who tragically died in a car accident in 1997 at the age of 36, into the show.
