While Jenna Dewan has always been sensational, her emergence as a single (surname un-hyphentated) woman lately has been nothing less than inspiring. Stepping out in NYC for a television appearance on Monday, the actress, dancer and former Mrs Channing Tatum appeared graceful, happy and smoking hot…exactly how we imagine our single selves once the ice-cream phase has ended. But how to get there?
The first thing to remember when beginning your fashion breakover is: this is for you. Not him. Any jealousy/pining/regret that incurs because of your new-found fire is purely an added bonus.
Secondly, remind yourself that this is a new beginning. Yes, it may only feel like an ending right now but you know deep down this is the start of something better. It’s as though you’re meeting a new version of yourself…so dress up for her! She deserves it.
Thirdly, it may seem cliché, trivial even, that retail therapy can be a total mood booster, but it’s true. Evidence: once upon a time when my sister broke up with a guy, I was desperate to cheer her up. On my way home from work that day I stopped in at Peter Alexander and bought her a pair of leopard print pyjama pants (not sure why, I think it was a micro trend at the time. Blame Avril Lavigne). Anyway, she was so chuffed with her new fleecies she pretty much stopped being sad immediately. At least, that’s how I remember it.
So while your heart might not be so easily fixed, a few new items that don’t jog your emotional memory can be quite the welcome Band-Aid.
