The woman means business. And, it’s her progressive, controversial views that are proving it. According to The New York Daily News, Cynthia Nixon – Sex And The City actress and Andrew Cuomo’s greatest threat in the race to become New York Governor – has doubled down on her support for legalising marijuana. She has particularly zeroed in on her backing of coloured neighbourhoods and the need for licenses.

“If you are black or Latino, you are 10 times more likely to be arrested for cannabis than if you are white. And that’s not right,” she said at a pro-legalization Cannabis Parade on Union Square on Saturday. “It will follow you for the rest of your life, that arrest, and it will make it harder for you to get a job and it will make it harder for you to get a place to live.”

Marijuana, for medicinal use, has been legal in the state of New York since 2016. But – unlike other more progressive American states, it’s recreational use is a decision still in limbo.

In response, Cuomo has reportedly softened his view on the drug.

“It’s really important for New York to be a progressive leader again,” Nixon said as she headed home on the subway.
