Venice Film Festival, you have a new King. Boy wonder, Timothée Chalamet, has attended the premiere of new Netflix film, The King, in a sublime dove great suit by Haider Ackermann worthy of monarch-only status.

In soft pale grey, it was the details which marked the look a cut above the rest (which, for the record, have been exceptional in the case of Chalamet. Remember the Louis Vuitton harness he wore to the Golden Globes?). But today was a whole new chapter in the wondrous style evolution of Hollywood’s favourite son. Instead of a shirt, for example, Chalamet wore a cowl neck top in sheeny silver; a bold, unisex move which was handled gracefully and convincingly. The same fabric was then employed at the top of the blazer’s lapel and via a belt, an impeccable touch which elevated the tailoring from mundane to throne-like. Cuffed imperfectly at the hem, the styling cue subverted traditional notions of sharp, impeccable tailoring with a purposely blasé approach, while a heeled Cuban boot in black was both combative and beautifully jarring.

Its piece de resistance, however, was the belt; a kind of delicate two-tone cummerbund in contrast silk and the matching material of the suit, which nipped the waist with the kind of savoir faire you’d expect of a master tailor. A deft touch, belted suits have been in surplus in womens fashion, with Chalamet further cementing just how mighty they truly can be.

After presenting his first double-gender show in Paris last year, Chalamet’s look is indicative of Ackermann’s non-binary approach to dressing, a line he has blurred sublimely with his signature creative tailoring. And if you’ve never lived out fashion’s axiom of “borrowing from the boys”, now is the time to do so. Belt up your blazer and pay your respects to style’s King. Long live Timothée Chalamet.
