No beauty category quite captures a season like fragrance. Evoking summers past, sticky nights, balmy bedfellows and the like, it is scent which truly captures our favourite season. Every summer tells a new story, and with this, so does each new scent – and the pair go hand in hand, like gin and cucumber, fish and chips, salt and sand.

These fragrances will leave you with a summer scent you’ll never forget…Back in the summer of seventeen.

Juliette Has A Gun, Sunny Side Up
How do we take our fragrance? Sunny side up, of course. As does Romano Ricci, proving such tendencies with his latest perfume. A freshly shucked coconut is the epitome of summer, and whilst its scent can be overwhelmingly sickly when translated to fragrance, Ricci has tipped this notion on its head, reinventing the coconut like never before – by using just a drop of its milk to accent the fragrance. Its main course, however, is a deviation from the sweet, instead, a woody concoction of sandalwood and orris root. Then for dessert, milky notes of vanilla bean and amyris round out this atypical summer mix. A gloriously smooth, sunny accord, it’s creamy – much like the way we take our yolk. Time to walk on the sunny side.

Iiuvo, Gilot
For the creative lads behind cult candle brand IIUVO; fragrance seemed the organic progression. Cut from the coolest cloth imaginable, their latest debut comes in the form of glass flacon (as oppose to porcelain vessel), and we’re in summer love. Inspired by the salty Mediterranean and its formidable women, this fresh yet complex scent is an olfactory dedication to Pablo Picasso’s young lover and muse, Françoise Gilot. Citrus top notes of freshly cut grapefruit and bergamot open to a heart of neroli and nutmeg, sweetened by a base of white marshmallow and musk, for an eternally zesty albeit slightly spicy summer spritz. Meet your new summer fling.

Lubin, Epidor
A reimagining of Lupin’s 1912 classic scent; their 2017 reincarnation is an inspired take on the enduring French tradition of summer wheat harvesting. An olfactory portrayal of the bucolic French tradition, notes of orange blossom and jasmine move with tonka bean, musky violet and juicy plum to invoke this bucolic time. It evokes a sun-kissed youth; from farming villages, exhausted from a laborious day of work, resting in the newly cropped fields and daydreaming about the ‘harvest end’ celebrations and hopeful romances – this is a fragrance for the summer dreamers.

Chanel N°5, L’eau
A modern and fresh take on Chanel’s iconic No°5, head perfumer, Olivier Polge, plays with crispness; balancing citrusy top notes of lemon, mandarin and orange, which unfold to a floral bouquet of rose and jasmine, and a newfound hint of ylang ylang. With just a touch of cottony musk, it is fresh and vibrant and so quintessentially Chanel. For the modern Mademoiselle en été.

AERIN, mediterranean HONEYSUCKLE
Take a trip to the sun-drenched Mediterranean with Aerin – long-haul flight not required. The sweetness of honeysuckle is offset with Italian Bergamot and Mandarin Oil, whilst Jasmine and Gardenia, and a fresh burst of sparkling grapefruit – soft and sticky from the sun – rounds out this summery accord. Even its cobalt cap is reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea; deep, vividly azure and enticing. Spritz (Aperol and Aerin) away.

ALTAIA, TUBEROSE IN BLUE
Take an old car trip through the narrow streets of balmy Rio de Janeiro, where, atop Corcovado mountain, luxuriant tuberose abounds. It was this very car ride – windows down and hot air blowing – where creator Sebastián first smelt the sweet waft of the tuberose, and here Tuberose in Blue was born. Zesty notes of mandarin and the freshness of freesia compliment the rose, and open to a woody accord of cedar and sandalwood. Now close your eyes and dream of a Brazilian summer.

ISSEY MIYAKE, L’EAU MAJEURE D’ISSEY
As always, Issey Miyake draws inspiration from water, and his latest olfactory offering is no exception. Evocative of a salt-whipped coastline, bergamot and grapefruit open to a woody base, making for the ultimate aromatic aquatic; a salty woody scent. For Miyake, water symbolises movement and strength, and this fragrance is testament. It may be deemed a ‘masculine’ scent’, but we know how good the boys smell, especially in summer.

AMOUAGE, BEACH HUT
A masculine imagining of a beachy idyll, Amouage’s head nose, the indomitable Christopher Chong, has evoked the wild greenery surrounding a beach hut, as oppose to the traditional saltines of the seaside for this compelling new scent. A green heart of Vetiver, Ivy and Moss open to the crispness of mint and orange blossom, whilst a heady undercurrent brews below; a raft of Dry Woods, Patchouli and Myrrh. A beachside escape like no other.
