LONDON: Kensington Palace announced on Monday that another Royal Baby is on the way. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are expecting their first child in the English springtime (March/April/May or Autumn in Australia).
“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” the statement read.
The announcement comes just five months since their May 19 wedding at Windsor Castle. It was the marking of a new time: Here was a 36-year-old, divorced, bi-racial American actress and feminist marrying into the Royal Family. For the most-part, this was seen as a positive step forward for the Royals in making them appear more inclusive, approachable and less rigid in their traditional ways.
The couple landed in Sydney on Monday morning and will continue their tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand across the next 16 days. A large part of the tour includes Prince Harry’s beloved Invictus Games, a sporting event in which wounded or injured service personnel take part in Olympic-style events like wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.
Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, tweeted his congratulations to the couple amid Kensington Palace’s announcement. “What fantastic news! Australia is thrilled for you both,” he said. “Looking forward to sharing in the joy during your stay down under.”
Speculation arose that Markle might be pregnant during her last few public appointments where her attire seemed to give it away. Whether it be some strategically-placed binding folders or a perfect peplum top, the internet was sure onto the Duchess. And really, we don’t think she did the best job of concealing it!
