Contrary to popular belief, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will probably be spending Christmas day in the UK after all.
While we were counting down the days to see the entire royal family walk the streets of Sandringham to attend the Christmas service at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Norfolk, the Palace recently confirmed that Meghan Markle will be celebrating December 25 with her own side of the family – and we took that to mean in the US.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland,” the Palace statement read. “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
But, according to a royal expert – of whom must have graduated from a special royal school – Markle and Prince Harry will likely spend their first Christmas as parents in London. “As we record this, the Sussexes are away, they are on their break right up until Christmas,” royal expert Omid Scobie said in a recent recording of his podcast The HeirPod. (Cute podcast name, by the way.) “I understand that they celebrated Thanksgiving privately with close family, which is lovely.”
According to Scobie, the royal pair and their son seven-month-old Archie are away at the moment “until Christmas” which would suggest the trio will return for the festive holiday at their home in Windsor – and it’s quite possible Markle’s mother Ragland will be joining them.
Next question: What would Markle buy her husband for Christmas? And vice-versa? And what would Ragland buy Prince Harry? The mind boggles.
