Did Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn get married in secret?
That’s what the singer’s die-hard fans are convinced has happened after analysing the lyrics to the songs on her new album that dropped on Friday, Lover.
Notably, there are a lot of references to marriage throughout the album. In the song Paper Rings, for example, which is about tying the knot, she sings “I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings.”
Some other references make it sound as though it’s not something Swift is talking about happening in the future, but that has already happened.
Case in point: In the album’s title track, Lover, she refers to the “something borrowed, something blue” wedding tradition.
“I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover,” she sings, “my heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue.”
The past-tense of “has been” has fans speculating Swift and Alwyn, her British actor boyfriend of about three years, may have already said “I do”.
Similarly, in It’s Nice to Have a Friend, she sings: “Church bells ring, carry me home. Rice on the ground, looks like snow.”
Sure, it could be someone else’s wedding Swift, 29, was being carried home from, but as we know, she’s an artist who draws intensely on her personal life in her work.
After having two relationships break down dramatically in the public eye – Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, in case you’ve somehow forgotten – it wouldn’t be surprising if Swift has decided to keep her decision to marry under the radar.
