There’s nothing that says “I’m committed” more than giving up the lease on your own apartment to move in with your new bae. Their place, their space and you’re back to square one if it all spontaneously combusts.

Such is the one-eyed love Anthony Vaccarello clearly has for his new employer; the Italian-Belgian designer announced yesterday he was wrapping up his own eponymous label – which already has scores of celebrity and fashion biz fans – to give the much-coveted new gig at the helm of Saint Laurent his full attention.

Still, despite the fact all of the staff at his now-defunct label have been snapped up by YSL, the designer hasn’t totally evaporated every fall-back option. A formal statement by Saint Laurent’s (and Gucci’s) parent company Kering says he’s simply pushed “pause” on the signature line he started to widespread acclaim at the age of 28 in 2008, meaning he could press play again if and when need arises.

Essentially, he’s put the furniture in storage rather than selling the job lot on eBay.

“This adventure has been amazing, but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project,” said the now 36-year-old, who had previously managed to juggle Anthony Vaccarello duties with his role as head designer at Versus Versace.

This means the Autumn-Winter 2016 signature collection currently in stores will be his last – for now, at least. A loss of one stunning label on the rise, but a major win for lovers of the Yves Saint Laurent legacy – he shows his first collection for the label last helmed by Hedi Slimane at Paris Fashion Week on September 27. Here’s hoping this relationship’s a match made in heaven.
