There’s plenty we could envy Suki Waterhouse for but right now it’s one thing in her arms we’re especially green over, and it sports the most desirable tattoo motif in fashion circles right now.

As a special touch to spice up the re-launch of its swanky three-story London flagship store, Italian leathergoods brand Tod’s has commissioned celebrity tattoo artist Saira Hunjan to hand-embellish five of its premium Double T Messenger bags of the season.

Brit-based Hunjan, who counts Kate Moss and Jude Law amongst her A-list ink clients, spent around 22 hours hand-tattooing each bag, incorporating lions, serpents, roses and hearts in the designs. The process, she admitted was very similar to crafting a tattoo on her human clients.

Her one-off creations are currently on exhibition at the Tod’s London Boutique, but a limited edition commercial version of the small Double T Messenger Bag will be on sale worldwide from November onward, starting at around $3,300. The seventies-inspired treat will sport a silkscreened tattoo-inspired print, hand-dyed edges and Tod’s new signature double T magnetic fastening. Australian clients can pre-order via the Tod’s Westfield Sydney store now.

So how does Waterhouse fit into the envy-fest? The Brit It-model co-hosted a launch party celebrating both the London store re-opening and the exhibition of Hunjan’s handiwork earlier this week, alongside the likes of Tod’s owner Diego Della Valle and Arizona Muse, sporting one of the money-can’t (currently) buy tattooed pieces.

“I’ve never had determination or conviction to get a tattoo. I change my mind too easily.”

“A lot of my friends do and I admire them from afar, particularly those with intricate and personal designs,” Waterhouse continues. “It is such an amazing form of artistry.” Still, with a designer bag like this over your arm, why would anyone need to take ink to the real thing?
