Seven months pregnant, Kate Middleton walked the red carpet at the British equivalent to the Oscars, the BAFTA awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London overnight. While it was the second year the Duchess and Duke Of Cambridge attended the event, Middleton suffered backlash for choosing an olive green Jenny Packham gown when all attendees were encouraged to wear black in support of the #TimesUp initiative. The movement began in the United States and gained traction at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards when the red carpet became a sea of women wearing black as a show of solidarity against the sexual harassment, abuse and general mistreatment of women. Fans have labelled Middleton’s choice as “disappointing”. While Royals traditionally stay neutral when it comes to politics and protests, many have argued this isn’t political, it’s for women.
