Last year it was announced Sweetbitter, the phenomenally successful debut novel by US author Stephanie Danler was coming to television – now, we’ve got a first look.

Starz, the network we have to thank for Outlander, has dropped the first trailer for the small-screen adaptation, and it looks as intoxicating and addictive as the book.

Starring Ella Purnell (Never Let Me Go, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) as protagonist Tess, Tom Sturridge (On The Road, Being Julia) as love interest Jake and Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex) as Simone, Sweetbitter follows the story of Tess, a naive early-twenty-something who’s just moved to New York and landed her first job as a waitress, who soon learns about the inner-workings of the NYC fine-dining restaurant world, as well as food, sex, drugs and … you know, life.

We’ve got a feeling it’s the dark, sexy, edgy new TV show we’ve been waiting for.

Sweetbitter season one has six half-hour episodes and will air on May 6. If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, check out Grazia Australia’s interview with Stephanie Danler.
