Television mogul and model Tyra Banks is taking back her America’s Next Top Model reigns with furore. Today she announced the show – which is in it’s 24th cycle in the U.S. – will feature some serious changes to its predictable formula. As well as replacing previous host Rita Ora, Banks announced via Twitter the judges will consider applicants of all ages (the limit has always been 27 years or younger).

“There have been 23 cycles of America’s Next Top Model and every single cycle we say you have to be 27 years or younger,” Banks said. “You know what I hear all the time? ‘Tyra, come on. Why have an age limit?’ So you know what? I’m taking the age limit off’.”

While some people have weighed in by accusing the model and television producer for taking a new angle as a fix to their plummeting ratings, others are eagerly applying.

Banks, the co-creator of ANTM announced she would be replacing Ora just two weeks ago. “I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the intensity of the ANTM fan base whose deep affection for the show led me to have a change of heart,” said Banks. “After giving it a lot of thought, I realised that remaining behind the camera wasn’t enough because ANTM is woven into my DNA.”

“Tyra has always been the heart and soul of the franchise and her absence was deeply felt by our fiercely loyal fans who missed their Queen of the Smize, said executive producer Ken Mok. “We’d like to thank Rita Ora for being a great partner and total pro. She infused this new iteration of ANTM with passion and creativity and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavours.”

Between her talk show and ANTM, the animated host has been a staunch supporter of empowering all women of all ethnicities, shapes, storied histories… and now age.
