Hailey Baldwin in the Check Blazer INSTAGRAM @haileybaldwin

This year’s international style weeks delivered us the best of the best in runway ready-to-wear, as well as the cream of the cutting-edge crop on the street.

The shows stopped us in our tracks (thank you Celine, Balenciaga, Tom Ford, Altuzarra and Alexander McQueen with your plaid suiting, new-style athleisure-wear and Noughties overtones) and the street stylers put the fun back into trendy fashion (see: ‘ugly’ sneakers, logo-embellished everything and colour, colour, colour).

Following this, our cup has runneth over with inspirational new trends. We’re bursting at the (actual) seams for a bout of cool weather to put these autumn ideas into practice.

And while the style set are usually rocking the lusty labels we can mostly only dream about, it doesn’t mean you can’t be just as on-trend. Clever shopping and bang-on styling is all it takes.

Here are the 15 (actually affordable) pieces you need to transform your look and have as much fun as the fashion front row.

1. The Check Blazer

Perhaps THE piece of the season (see Hailey Baldwin’s sexy version above), the checked jacket has exited your boyfriend’s work repertoire and hot-tailed it into your own high rotation. Wear suit-style, with jeans, over a dress, everything.

Zara, checked blazer, $139. SHOP NOW

2. The Linen Shirt

Crisp cotton takes a back seat this year as crushed linen takes its well-deserved spotlight. Wear it oversized and roughly tucked or fastened to the collar and perfectly pressed.

3. The Printed Set

Making a statement in fashion has never been so fun! A matching satin set of bomber jacket and cropped trousers is the hottest way to do what is an update on last year’s pyjama trend. Wear together or separate for endless outfit options.

4. The Detailed Overcoat

The big, dramatic coat will be huge this year. Rotate it with your classic trench, wear over jeans and with your ‘ugly’ sneakers.

5. The Boiler Suit

Moving on from summer’s overalls, the boiler suit is your new all-in-one go to. Working with fashion’s current obsession with everything racing, this is your homage to a suddenly chic Ricky Bobby.

6. The Logo Piece

Label love is hitting new heights. Everything from belt buckle logos to slogan tees to bags with embossed branding are the It accessory of the now. Both super on-trend and an excellent way to not-so-subtly mention you spent some dosh on your fashion.

Kenzo, cotton printed t-shirt, $121 from Net-A-Porter. SHOP NOW

7. The Resin Loops

Lobes are definitely the most decorated part of the human body this season. The pastel, loop, resin variety of earring are particularly sought after right now, for their adaptability to both fashiony nights outs and dressed-down days.

Valet, Chloe earrings, $129 from The Iconic. SHOP NOW

8. The Slip Dress

Eighteen years on the 90s keep delivering, and the bias cut slip dress is possibly its numero uno. Best worn with low trainers or slides, we hope Courtney Love took out the style patent way back when.

Delphine, Payback dress, $74 from The Iconic. SHOP NOW

9. The Blouse-Shirt

Equal parts stunningly feminine and cutting-edge-corporate, the blouse-shirt is the one piece that can immediately lift your look. Simply wear with jeans and a gold earring for instant yes-factor.

Zara, Bold Sleeve Shirt, $70. SHOP NOW

10. The ‘Ugly’ Sneaker

There’s a lot of talk around these right now, and opinions are certainly divided. Thank Balenciaga for this unexpected trend which both farrrshun and your in-step will be grateful for.

Ascent, Sustain trainers, $140. from The Athlete’s Foot. SHOP NOW

11. The Athletic Silk Dress

Athleisure dressing has gone high fashion again, this time with a distinctly tennis-meets-track approach. Details like polo-knit collars and racing stripes on non-sports pieces are taking the trophy.

Zara, dress, $99. SHOP NOW

12. The Stretchy Sock-Boot

The stretch boot made a hinted appearance last winter, however, this year its gained momentum to emerge a footwear favourite. More delicate than its leather counterpart, you can wear these under jeans or as a cool-weather statement with a flirty skirt.

Zara, stretch boots, $119. SHOP NOW

13. Tiny Sunglasses

While it feels like one minute ago eyewear was the size of dinner plates, forget everything you know and hop over to the teeny shades. If you need inspo, check out Gigi and Bella killing it in theirs. You’re welcome.

Le Specs, Outa Love sunglasses, $60. SHOP NOW

14. The Cropped Flares

Best ordered in a dark shade, the dramatic flare is still uber chic. The cropped variety is very 2018, looking best paired with an overcoat, an equally dramatic blouse…and a pair of our fave sock-boots (see above)

Topshop, Moto jeans, $62. SHOP NOW

15. The Bold Print Dress

Not just for long summer days, the statement dress (particularly the wrap variety) is your dash of ironic-femme for autumn. Wear it with unexpected partners like a blazer and boots or over a turtle-neck with trainers.
