Vetements, the hottest women’s brand out of Paris at the moment, showed its new Spring 2017 collection (an amalgamation of both the womens and menswear) at the first day of Paris Haute Couture collections. Designer Demna Gvasalia did not present couture in the typical artisanal craftsman sense which is why the brand presented off-schedule at Galleries Layfayette, a fitting location for the plethora of high street collaborations that made this outside-of-the-box collection memorable. Vetements (which by the way just means clothes in French) collaborated with brands that spanned the high-low heights from Juicy Couture to Manolo Blahnik, yet again blurring the lines between streetwear, high-fashion and gender in the most alluring way. Here’s the five things you should know about the collection:
Bringing Juicy back
It wouldn’t be a Vetements show without an ironic revival. Among one of the many high street collaborations for the Spring 2017 show was early Noughties velour tracksuit-peddlers Juicy Couture. Gvasalia ditched the velour and opted for head-to-toe onesies in bold colours with crystal-embellished “Juicy Couture” across the bum and down the forearms. Britney Spears is reportedly ecstatic.

The Doctor is in
A Doc Martens x Vetements collab feels like a match made in practical fashion heaven. Highlights include a platform sole and the words “Border Line” inscribed on the back heel. In. To. It.

It’s time to rethink what we know about Manolos
While the thigh high boot has become something of a Vetements signature, Gvasalia took it to up a level for Spring 2017. Yes, we will be soon be wearing not thigh-highs but hip-highs. Think of it as a kind of chic fishing wader. Vetements collaborated with Manolo Blahnik for all things heeled which also resulted in a new folded-over kitten heel, what you used to do when your poor blistered dance floor heels became too much just got the high fashion tick of approval.

What a champ
Vetements has been playing on the Champion logo for the past few seasons, so it makes sense that they took it up a notch and emblazoned a pastel pink tracksuit with the collegiate-fave logo.

The It Anorak is still a thing
Gvasalia returned with his normcore trophy piece —the anorak —in various forms. From a tartan-lined navy version to a red/black puffa in skiwear-like proportions. Yet again, the function becomes the fashion.

There’s a new way to style your button down
And it involves a well-starched front lapel. While deconstructed shirting is nothing new to the Vetements oeuvre, the unbuttoned mid-section to reveal portions of skin is a new styling take that adds freshness but literally and figuratively.
