The artist formerly known as Posh Spice is probably plenty used to tripping over sports shoes at home, but self-confessed stiletto addict Victoria Beckham started teaming trainers with her daywear months back, the out-of-character styling left fashion-watchers puzzled.

Once the queen of sky-scraper heels, her new footwear of choice for all but red carpet outings suddenly became crisp white trainers, usually of the Adidas Superstar variety. Finally, we have the answer to this most pressing of conundrums.

Global sports merch giant Reebok (which is owned by Adidas) has announced a new long-term partnership with luxury fashion designer Victoria Beckham, releasing a photo of her “reporting for duty at Reebok’s HQ for her first day on the job”.

Her new Sporty Spice work uniform? A crisp white tee, tailored black palazzo pants cropped just high enough to show off her shiny white Reebok trainers, naturally.

“I just can’t do heels anymore,” she said, now tellingly, in an interview with the UK’s Telegraph last year, perhaps paving the way for a clever sports luxe-centred partnership.

Indeed, Beckham Insta-snapped herself having hair and makeup done this morning before her first day on the sportswear job (as you do) in retro-look Club C 85 Classics, which retail on the Reebok website for $130. (Expect to see every fashion blogger and fashion editor snapped in these over the summer.)

Clearly, her 20-year love affair with high-glamour heels aside, VB knows her way around a clever commercial partnership. Her collabs with Estee Lauder and Target were heralded as flyaway successes. No doubt this open-ended hook-up with Reebok will follow the same groove. The partnership will kick off with the release of a Reebok x Victoria Beckham collection, due to drop in late 2018.

“As a brand, we look to partner with not just influential women, but women who want to truly change the world,” says Corinna Werkle, Reebok’s senior vice president of Women’s Initiatives, of Beckham joining the likes of Arianna Grande and Gigi Hadid as representative of the brand. “There is no better embodiment of this than Victoria.”

Beckham has released a statement mirroring the love-fest. “To have the opportunity to challenge the traditional notions of fitness wear within a fashion context is something I have always wanted to do,” she says. “I am thrilled to be coming together with Reebok on such a dynamic proposition.”

“She is a true visionary who possesses a relentless desire to help women become the best version of themselves. This desire shines through in everything she touches, especially her designs, which continue to push industry standards season after season. We cannot wait for the world to see what she will do with our collaboration.”

More details will be released on both the Reebok and Victoria Beckham brand websites in coming months.
