It’s strange if you think about it: a group of long-legged, genetically blessed women train, primp and preen for months, all to parade around in over-the-top underwear for a few minutes.
And given said women walk up and down a shiny catwalk in stilettos and precariously positioned outfits, it’d be weird – lucky, at the very least – if someone didn’t fall over at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
At the 2017 show held in Shanghai overnight that fate befell Chinese model Ming Xi, when her train got tangled in her heels. She handled it like a pro, smiling the whole way down and back up again.
But given all the challenges the show has faced this year as it was held in China for the first time, it’s a wonder more didn’t go wrong.
This year the honour of wearing the Fantasy Bra went to Brazilian bombshell Lais Ribeiro, who strutted her stuff in the piece worth a cool $2 million dollars, embellished with yellow sapphires and blue topaz.
Candice Swanepoel made a triumphant return as an Angel after missing the show in 2016, since she’d just given birth to her son Anaca in October last year.
It also marked the last show for a Victoria’s Secret icon – it was the last time Alessandra Ambrosio will wear her wings, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The 36-year-old confirmed the news to the site hours before hitting the catwalk, saying she wants to spend more time with her kids – and let’s be real, eat whatever she wants. After all, she’s been doing the VS Fashion Show for 17 years.
While Gigi Hadid was forced to pull out of the show after the Chinese government refused her a visa, and Kendall Jenner was absent reportedly due to a contract with a Victoria’s Secret competitor, sister Bella represented the it girl crowd.
Karlie Kloss – model, web designer and Taylor Swift squad member – was back after a two-year hiatus. She said she prepared by running the New York City marathon.
But the award for the biggest achievement of all might go to Harry Styles, who stepped in at the last minute to replace Katy Perry after China revoked her visa.
Styles managed to perform and keep his cool while watching three of his exes – Sara Sampio, Georgia Fowler and Nadine Leopold – strut past in lingerie.
The 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be televised on November 28.
