If there’s one arena in the world that Jennifer Lopez holds close to her heart, it’s New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The Bronx-born performer – in full JLo regalia – was a mere 30 minutes into her electric “It’s My Party” tour show at the MSG on Saturday night when the city’s power was cut.
Lopez – who turns 50 years old in a couple of weeks – had performed tracks “Medicine”, “Get Right”, “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” and “Dinero” before the outage. The venue’s house lights came on during her collab track with Cardi B and an MSG staffer apologised to the capacity crowd for interrupting the event before evacuating some 20,000 people from the Midtown venue. “I love you. I am so sorry that this has happened in the middle of our moment,” an emotional Lopez said in a video shared to her Instagram account. “I’m going to get back to you as soon as I can with when we are going to reschedule the show. You will get your money’s worth.”

For three hours, Lopez’s team and the MSG worked feverishly to reschedule the mass event to Monday night. The singer, still in full show makeup, addressed her fans once more telling them the show will go on and she will perform on her night off before she heads to Boston for a show on Tuesday.
The power outage, said to be caused by a transformer fire, crippled much of the midtown area and the Upper West Side. Some New Yorkers were left stranded in elevators while others were stuck on the subway as services came to a halt. The blackout affected a number of productions on Broadway included “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, “Hadestown”, “Lion King”, “Ain’t Too Proud”, “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “The Cher Show”.
