If the chaotic dash to the end of the year has got you beat, a quick weekender somewhere by the sea is sure to charge your batteries. For Sydney-siders, the Northern Beaches are a sure (or is it shore?) bet – close enough to be convenient, but far enough to feel like an actual break. Palm Beach in particular has all the charms of a sleepy seaside town (a handful of coffee shops, neighbours that know your name, and a leafy, endlessly blue outlook). So pack your bags – you deserve a mini break.

Stay

According to a study done by an English University, living near a blue space such as the ocean can make you happier. Rockridge is a property at the tippy top of Palm Beach that features the colour blue in spades, from the weathered timber exterior to the junction of sprawling ocean and sky outside of literally every glass panelled door and window. The interiors are coastal and chic; neutral tones, organic surfaces, living areas bathed in natural light. Once you’ve spent ample time reading on the day bed and lazing by the pool, take yourself upstairs for a long, frothy soak in the free-standing tub. Or would you rather a chilled glass of rosé under the stars in the spa? Maybe both? You are on vacation, after all!

Breakfast

It would be a crime to make the pilgrimage to the Northern Beaches and not stop at The Boat House for avocado toast. Grab a table outside, take considered sips of your coffee, and read the paper as opposed to scrolling through Instagram. If you want to take a little of the sand and sea home with you, be sure to stop in at the homewares store down the road, too.

Lunch

If you’ve got room for lunch, head to Barrenjoey House for fresh seafood and a glass of chardonnay while you gaze out across Pittwater. If you prefer dining al fresco between swims, grab fish and chips from local haunt Palm Beach Fish and Chips. Don’t forget the tartare and a generous squeeze of lemon.

Dinner

Head back to Rockridge and chill out for a few hours before you slowly start to slip into dinner mode. Jonahs is the pick of the peninsula. Make a booking just on sunset for floor to ceiling views of the day coming to a close. Take your time working through the expertly curated wine list, and don’t order conservatively. For a little taste of the Ligurian coast in Italy, go for the frutti di mare; a medley of hot and cold seafood that’s fresher than fresh.

Relax

Aside from sleeping in, eating, drinking, and swimming, might we suggest a good book? Our team is currently reading Three Women by Lisa Taddeo, Me by Elton John, and The Reinvention Issue of GRAZIA. If you’re physically inclined, be sure to hike to Palm Beach lighthouse for breathtaking views as well. Happy days!
