The latest episode of Game Of Thrones has one of those Daenerys Targaryen moments that’ve elevated Emilia Clarke’s character to goddess status, and made her an icon of female empowerment. She not only manages to escape her Dothraki prison but leaves such a path of destruction in her wake that we can assume her former captors won’t be bothering her again. She emerges victorious – and naked.

In an Entertainment Weekly interview published after the episode aired, Emilia confirmed that she did not use a body double for the scene, despite the option being on the table given her co-star Lena Headey did for that traumatic scene in the season five finale that saw Cersei take one hell of a humiliating stroll.

“This is all me, all proud, all strong,” she told EW. “I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!”

The British thespian felt more comfortable stripping down this time compared to when she did in season one, which saw her stand completely nude on a cliff. The latest instance was shot on a closed set, providing more privacy.

“Taking off my clothes is not the easiest thing, but with the magic of the effects, I don’t have to do a season one and go on a cliff and do it. I’m in control of it.”

She adds that she finds the buzz about her clothes-free scene somewhat amusing, given her male co-stars don’t garner anywhere near as much fuss when they do it.

“How many times has Michiel Huisman been asked about the fact he’s taken his clothes off a bunch? Is that even a discussion? No. So I’m doing it this year and people can talk about it and I’m ready to answer any questions about it, basically.”

The sixth season of Game Of Thrones is shaping up to see the female characters in focus, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
