What’s the best way to treat yourself this season? A little ear candy that comes sans the kilojoules. Long earrings that literally dusted models’ shoulders were one of the hottest accessory trends of this season, but there are definitely no one-look-reins rules in play on the Spring/Summer 2016 runways.
At one end of the spectrum, Alexander Wang draped his models in strands of industrial-looking chain links, while Oscar de la Renta’s models wore long faux-jewelled strands befitting a 1800s-era Russian princess. Prada’s brilliant pink pom poms screamed for attention, but the minimalist black pearl drops at Salvatore Ferragamo were quite the opposite, making a quietly confident statement.
One thing they all had in common, though: their extreme lengths. Anything less than a collarbone brush is just waaaaay too short right now. While there’s nothing new about seeing the likes of Beyoncé, Charlize and Gwyneth rock super-long ear bling on award show red carpets, a more recent phenom is long earrings for day – the bigger statement the better.
Think: Gigi Hadid teaming high-attitude shoulder-dusters with a plain tee and her signature distressed skinny jeans.
Celine, Proenza Schouler, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Emilio Pucci also served up extra-long ear candy to covet this SS16, but what summed up the new look perfectly was the Bollywood-esque chandelier long earrings on Kenzo’s runway – modern antiquities with a costume jewel twist. Thanks Humberto Leon and Carol Lim: the GRAZIA fashion office is collectively swooning. New rule: the bigger the statement, the better.
