She’s young, famous and embodies a cool factor that would be worth more than gold if bottled, but one thing young musician and model Willow Smith isn’t is the typical Chanel fashion model.

And it’s something the talented 15-year-old celebrity offspring, best known for her nose ring and whipping her dreadlocked hair “back and forth” is patently aware of, as buzz around her stunning new black and white campaign for Chanel eyewear gathers steam.

“It’s not every day that a 15-year-old black girl with dreads gets elected to be the Chanel ambassador,” Smith told The Telegraph after attending the Chanel Winter 2016 Haute Couture show in Paris with her father Will Smith yesterday. “I know a lot of girls that look like me feel that they’re not beautiful and feel like they don’t have a place in the media or a place in the world.

“I want them to know that’s not true and if you’re confident and you love yourself then everything you see, your perception will start to change and you’ll see things differently. I want to show those girls that might not think they’re beautiful but they are,” she went on to tell the UK publication.

Always one for spotting an X-Factor, Karl Lagerfeld chose Smith as the face of the brand’s eyewear campaign, covering off both optics and sunglasses, swathed in jewels from the Chanel’s AW16 ready-to-wear collection.

The young star’s natural charisma in front of the camera is undeniable, but it’s her confidence way beyond what’s normal for her age that we’re most impressed by. That and those stunning shades. Next stop, Hollywood calling.
