Jamaican-Canadian supermodel Winnie Harlow walked for Prada at Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday, posing for photos with Miuccia Prada and Nicole Kidman and rocking one the show’s best looks, a lightweight khaki jacket and pants combo.
To the model’s horror, her ongoing flight was cancelled, forcing Harlow and her hairstylist Jordan Jay Brumant to fly economy.
Harlow posted a pic from the plane showing the model, still in boiler suit (we wouldn’t take it off either), full makeup and hair, while snuggling into Brumant to try and get a bit of shut-eye.
“We had to give up our business class seats in order to land in time for a huge shoot at 6am,” the model said. Some on Instagram were quick to attack Harlow, also commenting on the fact she had her feet up on the seat next to her. In Harlow’s defence, she claimed not to have slept for four days prior. “I realize this may not seem like a big deal to some, but when a plane is your bedroom and a flight the only time to get sleep during a hectic fashion month, it’s tiresome.” Fair enough, sister.
Harlow had flown to Milan straight from New York, where she appeared in numerous shows at New York Fashion Week, and before that had modelled extensively at London Fashion Week. She’s also currently hard at work promoting her new makeup collaboration with Kim Kardashian West, the KKW x Winnie collection for KKW Beauty, and she’s also just launched a shoe collection with Steve Madden (in fact, we think she those might’ve been Steve Madden kicks she was wearing on the plane). This month, Harlow was the cover star for Elle Russia, and at a recent Harper’s Bazaar Icons event, she was a dream in a Zac Posen tulle confection.
So yeah, it’s fair to assume that it’s been a while since Harlow has been somewhere as ordinary as economy class.
When the Daily Mail described Harlow as “bemoaning” flying economy, she was quick to hit back.
“Me not flying in business is a statement, not a moan. If the class mattered I could’ve waited for the next availability”, she wrote on Instagram.
“If I can post pictures in business class and be proud, I can also take pictures in coach and be proud. Proud that making it to work is more important to me than how I got there. That is the message. Like I said, “the grind never stops.” Put that in your headline.”
